Getting married in Spain
Time to tie the knot

Although many people choose to cohabit rather than get married, there can be disadvantages when it comes to recognition of cohabiting status in some parts of Spain. Some regions will recognise you and your partner as a couple – but this isn’t always the case. In those regions, such as Valencia, you must register as a common-law couple (pareja de hecho) or marry, to be recognised as relatives when it comes to inheritance.

The good news is that if you are considering getting married you can now do so in Spain at the notary office. In this article we explain what the procedure is:

Here we share the stories of two couples who decided they wanted to get married and Ábaco helped to make the arrangements at the notary’s.

Donating your property

Rather than leaving it to inheritance to sort out who has what when you die, some people choose to donate whilst they are still able. This has a number of advantages that help ensure that your nearest and dearest don’t lose out. To explain what the benefits are, read this article:

Take a tour of Guadalest

Not far from Benidorm, this popular, historic little town really is a must to visit. As well as its castle, other buildings of note include a 12th century gaol and an 18th century baroque church. At the entrance to the village is the Museo Microgigante which has some exhibits that are so tiny that you need a magnifying glass to see them!

Find out more about the town, places to visit and how much it is to buy property there from David Ruiz’ website:

Tolls update

It’s being advertised that motorway tolls will not be imposed until the current rate of inflation has been reduced. Healthplan Magazine tells us more about it:

No Other Eu Country Has It: All About The Controversial Flashing Amber Traffic Light In Spain That Endangers Both Motorists And Pedestrians
When green doesn’t always mean go

You know the scenario. You’re in a car, the light’s turned to green and you turn right only to discover that pedestrians are crossing your path. Yes, it’s one of those weird go/stop scenarios that you sometimes find on the Spanish roads, along with the flashing amber traffic light. Apparently, Spain is the only EU country still to have this system. Check out the rules and wonder why they still exist:
