Modelo 720 reminder
If you are a resident of Spain and have assets in another country then you should check whether you need to complete a 720 asset declaration form. The deadline to submit this is March 31st and it is important that if you have assets of over €50,000 in another country that you register them. You need only do this once unless there are some changes such as investments maturing or assets having altered by €20,000 or more. There is a fine for late declaration but this is far less than if it’s discovered that you haven’t made one in the first place.
For more information on the form you can read our articles:

Final call for the non-resident tax declaration
If you are reading this as a non-resident and have no idea what a non-resident tax declaration is, then you are cutting it fine but are just in time to make a declaration. The deadline is December 31st and it’s a requirement in Spain if you own property here. Officially “imputed income tax”, it sounds complicated but really isn’t with the right support. AbacoTaxes clients needn’t worry, we have been presenting this declaration on your behalf over the recent months to have you covered. Non-resident tax in Spain: The complete guide |

More options for medical care
If you live in or around Gran Alacant, Santa Pola, then you might be interested to read about the new medical centre that Quirónsalud is opening there. This is the fifth such centre in the Alicante province, providing more choice of location if you are seeking private medical care.
To find out more information about what the new centre has to offer, you can read this article:

The definitive guide to San Pedro del Pinatar
Have you ever been to San Pedro on the Costa Cálida? It’s an attractive little town that can boast its own mud baths and salt flats as well as being a popular tourist destination without losing its Spanish character. If you are looking for somewhere to settle in Spain or perhaps buy a holiday home then this could be the destination for you.
David Ruiz tells us about its history, landmarks, gastronomy and how much it costs to rent or buy there:

Extension to amnesty on driving licences
This is the third time that an extension has been given. It enables those who live in Spain but still holding a UK driving licence, to apply for a Spanish licence. Although talks are still underway to come to a long-term solution to enable UK retirees to drive, those who haven’t applied would be advised to do so:

The quiet side to Ibiza
You might be surprised to read that there is one, but, as the article points out, Ibiza is a beautiful island with fabulous countryside and many places to discover. This article from El País introduces you to four hiking trails to start you off on your exploration of some of its unspoilt areas: |

The volcano sleeps again
It looks like the volcanic eruption on La Palma in the Canaries is finally over. The disruption was declared over after the last earth tremor was recorded on 13th December. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-59791541 Now, it will be down to the government to help the island recover after the devastating volcanic activity that has seen 7,000 people forced to leave their homes: |

See the Pascual Flores
If you are looking for something to do over the festive season you might like to have a look round the Pascual Flores. The Pascual Flores is a sailing ship that also acts as an exhibition centre. It can be visited by schoolchildren and the general public in Torrevieja until January 9th when it will head off to other destinations. The ship was actually built in Torrevieja in 1917 and since then it has been preserved and now acts as a floating and promotional museum for the city: Visit to Pascual Flores

Treasure troves really do exist
It looks like in the 9th century people were just as anxious to cover themselves and make sure their assets were hidden away, just in case. In 1960 a farmer came across more than 100 coins that had been hidden away – presumably to safeguard their owner’s future in case of war. This find was followed by more in the same area of Calatrava la Vieja helping archaeologists find out about life during this period. El País in English tells us more about it:

Watch the Cabalgata Reyes Magos
Most towns and cities across Spain have the three kings parade on 5th January. This is the popular Spanish tradition of welcoming the three kings as they bring gifts to the local children. Arrangements will vary this year depending on local restrictions and you should take note of those that apply. Here we have some information about what’s happening in Torrevieja:

Annual antics still continue
It’s not all doom and gloom. People across Spain are finding ways of enjoying the festive season in their own unique ways. This includes the Els Enfarinats battle staged in the Spanish town of Ibi. The Guardian has published photos of this rather unusual celebration of the Day of the Holy Innocents – or the equivalent of April fools’ day:
