Ábaco Club update
We’ve been out and about again, this time our members were treated to a day out in the Valle de Ricota and Cieza. This beautiful landscape is in the Murcia Region and at this time of year it is a delight to see with fields of peach, apricot, cherry and almond trees as far as the eye can see. Our guide was Alvaro who explained about the history of the area and about the flowering trees. After enjoying splendid views of the orchards we then enjoyed a delicious brunch at the Restaurante Jardines de Villanueva. You can see pictures of our day out on our Facebook page: |

The call is more urgent – get your TIE!
If you are a British national and are still a green residency certificate holder then it really is time that you changed to the TIE. The British Embassy has cranked up the urgency of its request. Change to the new form of residency permit or risk getting caught out when new entrance and exit rules come into play in Europe. Ignore at your own risk!

Buying a car in Spain
This is advice from Healthplan magazine. They outline the taxes associated with buying a used or new car. For example, you will need to pay IVA or transfer tax and registration tax. There are some discounts available, however, including deductions for electric vehicles and VAT deductions for the self-employed. Find out how much it is likely to cost you:

Passport fees increase
If you need to renew your British passport then be prepared to set aside a little more money than planned. From April 2025 the cost of a passport will go up by another 7% making a total increase of 25% in the last two years. The explanation? According to the Home Office, the intention is to make the system more self-sufficient:

Offer for frequent flyers with Ryanair
If you travel a lot with Ryanair then you might be interested to hear that they are introducing a new subscription loyalty programme. ‘Prime’ is designed to be an exclusive opportunity which will be limited to the first 250,000 members to apply. According to this article, you can benefit from discounted fares although you will have to pay to join the club:

Check your EHIC cardIf you are planning your next break to your Spanish holiday home make sure that you have the correct health insurance card to cover you whilst you are away. The EHIC for British citizens is gradually being replaced by the UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC). There is information on the NHS site: |

Would you buy a property complete with squatters?
You possibly didn’t even think this was an alternative and anyway why would you want to do this? However, some people do invest in property that comes with its own squatters. There is reasoning behind it – these properties are cheap. Spain Today explains what the options are – the risks and the possible advantages. It definitely is a gamble!
