It’s a podcast produced by El País in English and is advertised as trying to ‘explain to an English-speaking audience the curious, the under-reported and sometimes simply bizarre news stories that are often the headlines in Spain’. If you prefer listening to reading and are happy to subscribe it could be a good way of keeping in contact with what’s going on.

How did your neighbour vote?
If you are a resident in Spain and voted in the local town hall elections earlier this month, you might be interested to see how the votes went in your local area. This is a fascinating view of the whole country which allows you to find out exactly the voting patterns in each part of your town.

Watch out for pickpockets
Like many tourist destinations, some Spanish towns can provide rich pickings for pickpockets. In the busy summer season there is plenty of opportunity on crowded streets for them to make their swoop. It’s important to be aware but also be reassured. Some of these scams mentioned are rare and most people will never experience them. However, forewarned is not a bad place to be.

Free guided tours
Visiting the Murcia Today website is a great way of finding out about what’s going on in the Murcian region. They are very good at keeping you informed about the tours that are available. In this case there’s one on 7th July and that takes you on a trip round the bodegas in the town of Bullas.

It’s not just about Murcia. Murcia Today also publishes a useful guide to what’s happening in Spain. You can find out all kinds of information from what’s occurring with the price of petrol to reading a summary about the Catalan issue. If you like to keep informed, not just about places to visit but also what’s happening politically and practically in the country, then this is a good source of information.

A good idea that started in Stratford
A good reason for travelling can be that visiting other places triggers ways of improving your own. One example is described in this interesting article published in the Guardian.
