Resident tax declaration time
The 30th of June is the deadline for making your resident tax declaration. This declaration covers the tax period from January to December of the previous year and must be presented by the majority of residents. ÁbacoClub meets again
ÁbacoClub members have been out and about and this time we attended a Sevillanas Workshop and tapas at Red Palm Café. The workshop was timed to coincide with the Torrevieja Feria de Sevillanas and it certainly gave insight into the individual moves for both men and women of this traditional Andalucian dance. Here comes summer – and the Moors and Christians
If you are in Spain over the summer months then you should make a point of watching a Moors and Christians procession. These happen in many towns across Spain during July and August and are full of pageantry, tradition and typical Spanish exuberance. The procession itself can last for hours, so it is wise to find yourself a good seat and be prepared. In some towns there are even re-enactments and you can be guaranteed that after the processions are over the party has only just started!

Not far away from Benidorm, the town of Finestrat is well located and popular with the international market. Last call for TIEs
The warnings from the British Embassy are getting stronger. Exchange your green residency certificate for a TIE or risk not being admitted back to Spain if you leave the country. According to their latest post, British people living in Alicante and Málaga are some of the most likely not to have yet made the transition. They warn that this could lead to them being denied entry to Spain when the EU’s new border control system comes into force:

Have you got your 72-hour emergency kit?
The blackout last month made everyone think a little more about what essential equipment you might need if the lights went out again. It was a surreal experience and it ‘brought to light’, the need for some basic items including batteries and a radio! Now the EU is talking about the contents of this ‘emergency kit’ and also how they should prepare both themselves and citizens for any eventuality:

DGT – new online system
The DGT has launched a new digital system, according to EuroWeekly News. They explain how, provided you have a digital signature or ‘clave’, you can access their system allowing you to exchange your Non-EU licence for a Spanish one. They’ve not necessarily gone for the most popular and there are a few names that you might not know. One, not too far from the Ábaco offices, is Villajoyosa.
