The NIE – how to obtain it and what it’s for

Advice for non-residents with Spanish plated cars
If you are a non-resident but your car is registered in Spain then this can cause a problem if you are stopped by the police. The police cannot identify whether you really are a non-resident or not and so you might be given a fine for not having a Spanish driving licence. In order to prevent this misunderstanding you should carry with you a non-resident’s certificate. Is Spain against tourists?
