  1. send the form of yourself from Spain
  2. return to the UK to obtain your new passport
  3. or use a service like ‘Check and Send’

If you decide to send the form off yourself you must be careful to read the instructions. The rules around the passport photo have become even tougher and you must make sure that there are no stray hairs, that there is a clear view of your face and that you are not smiling.

If you are planning a return to the UK for over three weeks then you might consider renewing your British passport whilst you are there. There is a fast track system that is available but alternatively you could go directly to one of the Passport Processing Centres which have a turn around time of between 7 to 10 days.

The ‘Check and Send’ service is one way of renewing a passport in Spain without having the worry of wondering if you have done it all correctly. Your form will be scrutinised for errors and is then sent by secure courier service. This is a service that you can find in some post offices specialising in meeting the needs of specific expat cliental. Whichever way you choose, cherish your passport. You never know when you’ll need it next.
