I am going to sign on the padron but understand I must take my ‘escritura’. What is one of these?

Dear Steven
Thanks for your query. The Escritura Publica is the Spanish name for the Title Deeds of the property you own. If you are only renting a property you will not have one and will need to take your rental contract in order to sign on the padron instead.
The escritura includes a detailed description of the property, the conditions of the conveyancing and the price of the property. It also identifies the owner and lists any mortgages or charges held against the property. Only the person named on the escritura can sell the property.
